Roster rumors continue to fly around the League of Legends pro scene as Season 11 and Worlds 2021 races to its conclusion. In the NA LCS, word on the street has it that AD Carry Peng “Doublelift” Yiliang is considering a return to pro play in the 2022 season. The report came from a trusted name around the scene, and particularly a good friend of Doublelift himself, Travis Gafford.

Doublelift has had quite the storied career in pro play, at least in the NA scene. He started out at Counter Logic Gaming (CLG) when the rivalry in the region was the classic CLG vs TSM, and even won his first NA LCS trophy with them, only to sensationally head to Team SoloMid in 2016 to play alongside mid lane star Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg. Doublelift then had a stint as Team Liquid's starting bot laner with former Samsung Galaxy World Champion Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in, but later switched back to TSM.

When he retired in 2020 (the same year Bjergsen retired too) Doublelift had racked up eight NA LCS titles in his pro career—setting the record as the most ever for any LCS player. He had brought his teams to Worlds time and again. Although as fans will know, the region's performances internationally have been disappointing barring perhaps Cloud9 (C9). Despite that, there's no doubt that Doublelift had turned himself into one of the most iconic pro players in the NA scene.

As the ADC looks to take the stage once again, fans have been speculating as to which team Doublelift might join. Gafford, who has unsurprisingly been part of the recent roster shuffle chaos all over the region, worded it very specifically as Doublelift “exploring options” to possibly play competitive League again. Interestingly, however, he also speculated that the ADC could play very well alongside C9's Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme.

Currently, Vulcan plays alongside bot partner Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen. That said, a roster move wouldn't be too surprising. Fans have wondered whether a new ADC might come in for C9 after their miraculous but ultimately unsatisfactory Worlds 2021 run. It'd be interesting, though, if Doublelift were to choose C9, considering the rivalry with TSM and TL as well. But then, it wouldn't be the first time that he would have been part of a sensational switch between rivals.

Doublelift now joins a pool of other retired players looking to taste the thrill—and grind—of competitive play yet again. Bjergsen had already announced his coming out of retirement earlier and seems to have a team in mind already. In a surprising move, the mid laner had left TSM after eight years with the org. Meanwhile, over in Europe, former Fnatic star sOAZ also aims to head back to pro play.
