LeBron James has retaken the top spot as MVP favorite after Joel Embiid suffered a knee injury that is expected to keep him out for the next couple weeks.

James is at +115 odds to win league MVP, per BetOnline.ag. Nikola Jokic has the second-best odds at +250, while Embiid has slipped to third (+600). James Harden (+800) and Luka Doncic (+1200) round out the top five favorites.

It is fascinating to see LeBron James is still considered a top favorite over Jokic.

LeBron has been terrific this season, to be sure. James is averaging 25.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 7.8 assists through his first 37 games. The four-time MVP is shooting close to 51 percent from the field, and has been every bit as engaged on the defensive end of the floor.

Still, it is hard to ignore just how badly the Lakers struggled once Anthony Davis went down with his Achilles injury. Los Angeles went just 2-6 in its final eight games prior to the All-Star break. James still performed pretty well despite the skid, though his three-point shooting has tailed off over the course of the last month.

Jokic has perhaps the strongest case of anyone in the field. He is currently tied with Embiid in terms of player efficiency rating (PER), but has sizable leads in win shares per 48 minutes, box plus-minus and value over replacement (VORP). LeBron James is third in the latter category. Nikola Jokic also has a true shooting clip close to 65 percent.

It remains to be seen how the second half of the season will play out. But Jokic continues to be underappreciated.
