The Detroit Lions have signed Los Angeles Rams running back Malcolm Brown to an offer sheet, according to ESPN's Field Yates.

Malcolm Brown was an undrafted free agent out of Texas in 2015 who played for the Rams in his four NFL seasons. This past season, he carried the ball 43 times for 212 yards. He also made plays as a receiver in the backfield, with five receptions for 52 yards and one touchdown.

He suffered a clavicle injury in Week 12 against the Detroit Lions. The injury ended his 2018 season. Even then, he did not receive too many reps because he was stuck behind the Rams' star running back, Todd Gurley.

The Rams already gave Brown the original tender offer. If they don't match the offer given by the Lions by next Monday, they won't receive any draft compensation.

With Gurley still dealing with a knee injury that is more serious than people initially thought, it would be wise for the Rams to match the offer. C.J. Anderson likely won't return to the team, since he will be in search of a bigger contract that exceeds what the Rams are willing to offer. Justin Davis and John Kelly are the other running backs on the team.

The Lions currently have Kerryon Johnson, Theo Riddick, Mark Thompson, Kerwynn Williams, and Zach Zenner on the roster at the running back position. It's not clear how Brown would fit into this running back group, but since they aren't in serious need of a running back, the deal is likely small enough for the Rams to match.
