The Dallas Cowboys are in desperate need of a win this weekend, and it looks like they will be catching a big break that should help them.

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is not expected to play in his team's Week 11 matchup with the Cowboys on Sunday.

Stafford is dealing with a fracture in his back and was sidelined during the Lions' loss to the Chicago Bears last Sunday, marking the first time Stafford was out of action since 2010.

In eight starts this season, Stafford has thrown for 2,499 yards, 19 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 64.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 106 in what appeared likely to result in his best campaign since 2011 prior to his back injury.

The 31-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Georgia, was originally selected by Detroit with the first overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft.

He made 10 starts during his rookie year and struggled, finishing with 13 touchdowns and 20 picks. Then, the following year, injuries limited him to just three games.

Finally, in 2011, Stafford broke out, throwing for 5,038 yards, 41 touchdowns and 16 interceptions while completing 63.5 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 97.2.

Since then, Stafford has been an effective signal-caller for the Lions, but up until the first half of 2019, he had not come close to replicating his production from his third season.

Detroit is just 3-5-1 on the season and sits in last place in the NFC North.

Jeff Driskel got the start under center for the Lions last week, so he will likely be playing quarterback against Dallas on Sunday.
