Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has cleared concussion protocol, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Stafford was shaken up and forced to leave the game after taking a hit from Minnesota Vikings LB Eric Wilson in the fourth quarter of Detroit's 34-20 loss. Chase Daniel finished up under center for the Lions.

The concussion scare came after a miserable week for Stafford, who was forced to self-isolate in quarantine due to close contact with a family member who tested positive for COVID-19.

“I just hate being away from my family,” Stafford said after the game. “Finish a practice, finish a game, go hug my daughters, hug my wife, that's what sometimes makes it worth it for me and not being able to see them and hang with them has been tough. But there's other people dealing with the same kind of stuff I am.”

Stafford was unable to practice in person with his team, conducted his game preparation virtually, and flew to Minnesota by himself.

Considering everything he was dealing with, Stafford understandably struggled in Detroit's all-around ugly loss on Sunday. Stafford did find a brief groove in the first half, but committed two back-breaking turnovers in the third quarter — an interception to Wilson followed by a brutal red-zone pick minutes later.

Stafford finished with 211 yards on 21-of-32 passing with one TD and two interceptions. He has 14 TDs against seven interceptions on the season, as the Lions dropped to 3-5.

As Rapoport points out, the good news (besides a friendlier upcoming schedule) is that Stafford cleared protocol and should be available to rejoin team activities when practice starts on Wednesday for the Week 10 matchup against the Washington Football Team.
