The Detriot Lions have seen their 2018 season continue to head south following their fourth loss in the last five games that have pushed them to the brink of possibly missing the playoffs.

Detroit was dealt another significant blow to their offense as veteran wide receiver Marvin Jones was placed on the season-ending injured reserve on Monday afternoon due to a knee injury, according to Justin Rogers of Detroit News.

He had initially suffered the injury against the Bears on Nov. 11 that he had sought out a second opinion on the situation less than a week later. His knee had been assessed that both his MCL and ACL were both intact. Jones has since missed the last two games due to the injury that has ultimately ended his 2018 campaign with five more weeks to go in the regular season.

Jones has been one of the primary factors in the passing game throughout his tenure with the Lions as he has recorded 35 catches for 508 receiving yards and five touchdowns in nine games played this season. He has notched one 100 receiving yard performance this season that saw him tally seven catches for 117 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns against the Seattle Seahawks. His absence from the offense presents another major void that must be filled moving forward as the team has already had the departure of former Pro Bowl wide receiver Golden Tate in a move to the Philadelphia Eagles prior to the trade deadline last month.

This has now placed even more importance on wide receiver Kenny Golladay to assume the top receiving threat option in the passing game for rest of the year. Golladay has racked up 52 receiving yards for 804 receiving yards and five touchdowns this season. He is coming off another highly productive performance with five catches on eight targets for 90 receiving yards against the Bears, which was the eighth time he has notched more than 50 receiving yards this season.
