Just a week after the Detroit Lions appeared dead in the water following the removal of their head coach and general manager, they pulled off a miracle comeback late in the fourth quarter against the Chicago Bears to earn a 34-30 win. The Bears executed a miracle fourth-quarter comeback of their own against the Lions in Week 1, so this was some sweet revenge for Detroit.

Trailing by 10 points with under five minutes remaining in regulation, the Lions went 96 yards down the field in just over two minutes to make it 30-27. Detroit capped off the drive with this Matthew Stafford 25-yard strike to Marvin Jones Jr.:

Detroit's defense then got in on the fun.

Leading by three with time waning, the Bears attempted an ill-advised passing play with quarterback Mitchell Trubisky on third down. Lions defensive end Romeo Okwara forced his way around the edge and stripped the ball from Trubisky's grasp. The Lions recovered the ball inside the Bears' 10-yard line:

Operating with prime position to score, veteran running back Adrian Peterson turned back the clock with a power run inside the red zone, forcing his way across the goal line and giving Detroit its first lead of the afternoon:

Chicago still had a good amount of time to go down the field for the win. The Bears put together a nice drive and got in position for a game-winning touchdown, aided by a 15-yard Lions penalty.

However, an Allen Robinson gaffe on a third-down reception left Chicago short of the sticks, resulting in a 4th-and-1 do-or-die play. Detroit promptly stuffed David Montgomery to secure the win:

Though the Lions are unlikely to factor into the postseason discussion as the year draws to a close, the victory is a positive development for an organization that appeared dispirited under the stewardship of former coach Matt Patricia. While Detroit remains in need of a rebuild following years of lackluster performances, Sunday's effort is a reminder that the franchise might not be as helpless as we all thought.
