Saturday's 4-1 shellacking at the hands of Watford proved to be the final straw for under-fire Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar-Solskjaer. According to multiple reports, the Red Devils have decided to sack the 48-year-old manager after what has been a dismal campaign for United this season.

This report comes via football insider Fabrizio Romano:

The United board held an emergency meeting following their humiliating loss at Watford. It was clear that Solskjaer's future with the club was the primary objective of the sit-down and unsurprisingly, United's brass decided that enough is enough.

The Red Devils have been in dismal form of late and Saturday's defeat was just the latest of a string of brutal losses. United are now winless in their last seven Premier League matches, which includes a 5-0 loss to Liverpool, a 3-0 defeat vs. Tottenham, and a 2-0 drubbing courtesy of their bitter cross-town rivals in Manchester City.

Reports have also confirmed that the decision to part ways is mutual and that both camps are now working out a deal with regards to Solskjaer compensation:

Ole Gunnar-Solskjaer, himself a club legend during his playing days, leaves the club after three years at the helm. He had his best spell with United last season, during which he guided the club to a second-place finish in the Premier League — the first time United finished in the Top 4 in back-to-back seasons since the Alex Ferguson era (they finished third in 2020).

United have yet to announce who will take over in Solskjaer's stead. They face a tough test against league leaders Chelsea next week.
