Toronto Raptors team president Masai Ujiri has done a great job in his role. The former Denver Nuggets executive signed a $15 million, three-year deal in 2013 to be Raptors general manager, and he was promoted to team president in 2016. In his tenure, the Raptors escaped from relative obscurity in the East and made the playoffs all four years Ujiri was involved with the organization.

With those results, and with a 2013 Executive of The Year award in his resume, Ujiri was, per reports, strongly considered for the Knicks GM job, after Phil Jackson was fired last month. Those speculations, however, were crushed by Ujiri.

The Raptors, under Ujiri, became a very healthy organizations that is constantly in contention for the top of the Eastern Conference. Ujiri was always active, doing everything to help the team, which we could have seen last season.

Ujiri traded very little to get forwards Serge Ibaka and P.J. Tucker, both of which could help against the “villain of the East”, LeBron James. Losing only guard Terrence Ross in the process, Ujiri brought a starting quality power forward and a great back-up small forward, but it did not help the Raptors against the Cavaliers.
