The Dallas Mavericks have waived forward Quincy Acy and plan to sign guard Jonathan Gibson, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.

The move comes at the heels of injuries to point guards Deron Williams and J.J. Barea, who are both out with calf injuries. Seth Curry is bound to get the nod at the starting gig, but with Devin Harris just shedding his walking boot and recovering from his toe injury, the Mavs are extra thin at the point guard position.

This is potentially Curry's best chance to make a statement, as he'll likely be able to log around 35 minutes or more in their absence. The Duke product likes to push the pace and has quick hands that favor his game in transition.

While it would be hard to leapfrog a healthy Barea, Curry can likely earn himself a minutes boost in the eyes of coach Rick Carlisle if he can put the numbers and wins to come with it.

Gibson is an undrafted player out of New Mexico State. He's a solid shooter with range and had previously signed with the Mavericks during the summer, averaging 18.8 points and 1.6 steals during the Las Vegas Summer League.

Acy has fully recovered from his bone bruise injury and will have opportunity to sign with a team once he clears waivers, according to Charania.

The Mavericks (2-8) will face the Memphis Grizzlies (6-5) at home on Friday.
