The Dallas Mavericks are still smarting after losing Dwight Powell for the rest of the season. While they can still resolve the situation by making a midseason trade, the Mavs are hesitant to let any of their valuable assets go for a player who can contribute now.

According to Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News, the Mavs are now looking to add a prototypical big man to bolster the quality of their rotation. However, trading for a big who can make an impact would likely cost them one of their young players. This makes things complicated for everyone involved as the Mavs are eager to get to the playoffs this year.

There are two players who are heavily linked with the move to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Cleveland Cavaliers big man Tristan Thompson is one of the players they can get. He's been a solid contributor for the Cavs, and his production this year will make him an expensive acquisition. However, it's hard to find another big who has Thompson's energy and championship experience.

The other favorite to end up in Dallas is Marcus Morris. He's one of the team's leading scorers at 19.0 points per game to go along with 5.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists. If the Mavs decide to trade for him, they may end up letting go of Jalen Brunson or Dorian Finney-Smith in return. Since the Mavs are hesitant in trading away any member of their young core, it provides them with a difficult dilemma.

There is still time before the trade deadline, but the Mavs have to choose fast. They cannot completely replace what Powell was giving to them before the injury happened. However, they need to act now before the trade deadline officially passes by.
