Luka Doncic came out with a huge performance for the Mavs on Monday night. Unfortunately, his heroics were all for nothing as Dallas lost Game 1 against the Phoenix Suns, 121-114.
Doncic dropped 45 points all over the Suns on Monday, and this is far from the first time the Mavs superstar went on a scoring barrage in the postseason. Unfortunately for the Mavs, this is the fourth time the Mavs have lost with Luka eclipsing the 40-point mark (h/t StatMuse on Twitter):
This is definitely a cause for concern for the Mavs. Doncic did all he can for his team, but in the end, it wasn't even enough to keep the game close against a powerhouse Suns side. Unless his teammates start helping him out, Phoenix will be more than happy to let Doncic feast. At the end of the day, the Suns will gladly let Luka score all the points he wants so long as they emerge with the victory.
For what it's worth, Doncic's 45 points outscored the rest of the Mavs' starters. Dallas will need to figure things out fast because clearly, Luka Doncic can't do it all on his own.
