Dirk Nowitzki put all the retirement talk for bed at least for one more year earlier this offseason by inking a two-year, $10 million deal to remain with the Dallas Mavericks.

It was a contract that was far below his worth and impact on the organization that he has made throughout his illustrious NBA career. According to Eddie Siefko of SportsDay Nowitzki made light of his new deal with the Mavericks while taking a little friendly jab at team owner Mark Cuban.

Cuban has been quite outspoken about his admiration and respect for Nowitzki that has developed since he took ownership of the team well over a decade ago. The 39-year-old has shown the ultimate commitment to the franchise regardless of what the current state of the team being as they are nowhere near a title contender.

In fact, Nowitzki has sacrificed nearly $200 million to remain with the Mavericks at each point he has re-signed with the organization in order to help provide the front office with more financial room to make some significant moves.

It is not often in the word of professional sports to find an athlete like Nowitzki that is willing to comply to continue to take less for the betterment of the franchise. This is a special bond that he has with organization and city that is a rarity in today's game.
