Just when he got his most recent second chance at an NBA career, Isaiah Thomas will now have to wait once more as the team announced earlier that he has been placed in the league’s health and safety protocols. Just signed by the Dallas Mavericks to a ten-day hardship deal after his most recent ten-day deal with the Los Angeles Lakers ended earlier than expected, Thomas was expected to provide some depth at the point guard position while Dallas worked to get their team back to full health after their latest COVID-19 scare.

Instead, Thomas finds himself on the COVID list himself and without the opportunity to show the rest of the league that he still belongs in the NBA. COVID has been taking different players varying times to come back from, so we may have seen the only game that Thomas will play for the Mavs in 2021-22.

In Thomas' 13 minutes during his lone appearance for Dallas, he scored six points and had four assists. Before that, in four games with the Lakers, Thomas was averaging nine points, two assists, and two rebounds in 22 minutes of court time per game.

Those numbers are not going to inspire them to bring Thomas in–even for a workout–but perhaps Dallas feels that he can help their team and waits for him to clear the COVID protocols. Just don't hold your breath on the marriage between Thomas and the Mavs as it can be over just as quickly as it came together.
