LeBron James has fans from all over the world and occasionally, some of them find their way into the NBA. Luka Doncic, the 19-year old rookie of the Dallas Mavs, asked the Los Angeles Lakers star during their game at Staples Center if he could get James’ jersey and have him sign it.

He would not be disappointed.

According to ESPN’s Baxter Holmes, the 6-foot-7 rookie from Slovenia waited in the hallway patiently after the game Wednesday night for the memorabilia of a lifetime. Later, a team official handed him a jersey with James’ signature and a written message which included the words, “Strive For Greatness.”

“I always wanted his jersey,” Doncic said after he received his prized possession. “It was something special to me.”

Doncic finished with 14 points, seven assists and five rebounds which are nice stats for rookies, but it was a subpar performance for the superstar in waiting. James, on the other hand, scored 29 points and added six assists, five rebounds and three steals. With 2.1 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, he also knocked down the game-deciding free throw to give the Lakers a harrowing 114-113 victory.

This was Doncic’s first time to face James in a game that the rookie was highly anticipating.

“It's very special,” Doncic said about the match up with his idol, “I was waiting for this game, and it was very special to me.”

For the season, Doncic is averaging a team-leading 19.6 points 6.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. The young stud appears to be on the 16-year veteran’s radar as he appears to be well aware of Doncic’s game.

“I think European players are developed faster than NBA guys, meaning American players,” James said. “I think he's been in a pro development stage now for how many years? Since he's 15? So I don't think this is intimidating to him. I don't think this game is something he hasn't seen before.”

Maybe not intimidated, but definitely in awe of seeing the Lakers forward in person. Perhaps in the next game, Doncic won’t be as starstruck now that he has a James jersey in hand.
