The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen when Luka Doncic will return to the Mavs.

Luka Doncic has missed the last two games with an ankle injury he suffered against the Orlando Magic. According to Callie Caplan of the Dallas Morning News, he is admittedly still feeling the effects:

“I mean, it bothers me sometimes. Obviously, it’s not healed 100%. That’s why I missed the game in Atlanta. It was swollen and, you know, I’m just trying to keep the swelling down.”

It is safe to say that this is hardly an encouraging update regarding Luka Doncic's status for the near future. Although the injury was not initially deemed to be too severe, it seems to be lingering around longer than some may have expected.

There is good reason for Dallas took take a cautious approach with is recovery. After all, Luka Doncic has easily established himself as the most promising, young player in the league. The last thing Dallas needs is for him to suffer any kind of setback before the postseason rolls around.

Fortunately, the Mavericks have bought themselves some time for Luka Doncic to work his way back to 100%. They are currently the seventh seed in the Western Conference and are six games ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies in the playoff picture.

While they would undoubtedly like to get the best position possible in this tight-knit playoff race in the West, their priority is making sure that Luka Doncic is fully healthy before getting back on the court.
