Dallas Mavericks shooting guard Wesley Matthews plans to opt into his player option for next season.

As reported by Dwain Price of mavs.com, Matthews addressed the question of whether he intends to pick up the $18.62 million player option to return to the Mavs next year or simply test the waters of unrestricted free agency.

“Obviously that’s something that hasn’t been on my mind,” Matthews said. “That’s what you have an agent for and agencies for.

“Like I said, I don’t plan on being anywhere else. And now it’s just focusing on getting back healthy, which I am now, and getting on this court.”

Matthews also talked about the great chemistry he developed with the rest of his teammates and being part of an organization with championship history, too.

“You don’t find too many places where, top to bottom, everybody gets along with everybody,” Matthews said. “We never turned on each other, we never flaked on each other.

“This is an organization that’s a prideful organization — it’s had a lot of success. This is a very successful championship organization and these past two seasons in not making the playoffs and being in the lottery is not ideal for anybody to be a part of it.”

Matthews was recently cleared for basketball activities after sustaining a fracture to his right proximal fibula on March 10.

In the regular season, Matthews logged in 12.7 points, along with 3.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. He also nailed 2.4 threes on 6.4 attempts nightly for 38.1 percent from long distance. He played in 63 games for the Mavs, averaging 33.8 minutes per contest.
