The New York Yankees and the Atlanta Braves will finish up a two-game series on Tuesday night. It's time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Yankees-Braves prediction and pick.

This game holds a lot of weight for both sides. The Yankees have used a recent hot streak to pull within four games of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East, so every game counts for this New York squad that still has hopes of winning the division title. The Braves, like the Yankees, rode a recent hot streak into a playoff position. Atlanta is currently leading the NL East by 4.5 games, but that lead is far from safe. Both the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets have held first place in the division at some point in the season, so Atlanta needs every win they can get to secure their playoff hopes.

Here's how the bookmakers have set the odds for Tuesday's game.

New York Yankees ML (+126)

Atlanta Braves ML (-136)

Over 9 runs (-117)

Under 9 runs (-103)

Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread

New York enters this game as the hottest team in the MLB. They've won their last ten games, with nine of those wins coming by multiple runs. The Yankees have also scored more than four runs in each of their last five contests. Slowing this team down is going to be near impossible, even for Braves pitcher Charlie Morton.

Morton has been great this season, but the Yankees have a couple of edges on him in this contest. New York is actually a better offense when they play on the road, earning a higher batting average and more extra-base hits away from Yankee Stadium. Morton happens to be worse when he pitches in his home ball park, as he sees his ERA rise from 3.08 on the road to 3.81 when he's at home. Morton's opponent's batting average also rises from .191 to .223 when Morton plays in Truist Park.

Why The Braves Could Cover The Spread

The Braves are lucky enough to be facing Yankees starter Andrew Heaney in this game. Heaney has been the worst New York starter by far, earning himself a 5.51 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP on the year. Those are terrible numbers, and the advanced stats show that this matchup gets even better for the Braves.

Heaney's sabermetrics are even worse than his basic stats. The lefty allows a barrel percentage of 9.6% and a hard-hit percentage of 41.5%. Both of those numbers are on the higher end of the spectrum, and they don't match up well with a Braves lineup that has eight hitters sporting an above-average barrel percentage. All eight of those Braves hitters also own good hard-hit percentages. This lineup should be able to put together plenty of extra-base hits and home runs against a pitcher who has given up both of those things in waves this season.

Final Yankees-Braves Prediction & Pick

It's tough to pick against a team that's as hot as the Yankees, but the Braves are the right call here. Morton is far better than Heaney, and these offenses are somewhat comparable. Heaney is just too volatile to trust, so Atlanta has to be the pick here.

FINAL PICK: Atlanta Braves ML (-136)
