The New England Revolution will be playing Philadelphia Union in a match where both teams need the win, the Revolution to keep chasing the playoffs and the Union to stay first in the conference. With that said, it’s a good time to check out our MLS odds series, which includes our New England-Philadelphia prediction and pick we have laid out below.

The New England Revolution has had a major fall from last season. After claiming the first seed last season and starting this one with a win and a draw, many believed they would be back at the top. However, five losses in the next six meant that the Revolution are far from the top. Still, a fine run of form sees them as close to the playoff race. The Philadelphia Union are still occupying that first spot in the Eastern Conference. However, most of that was based on the first couple of games in the season, as the Union has just a single win in their last seven. Still, a win versus the Portland Timbers could signal coming back to form.

Why New England Could Win This Game

No one could have predicted the New England Revolution starting the season in this manner. After making the CONCACAF Champions League last season, many expected the Revolution to continue on this path, but five defeats in six games meant that there was a bitter playoff fight to happen for New England this season. Thankfully, they have bounced back and lost just once in the last six. Now, with that confidence rebuilt, they enter this game.

It will be a tough opponent, there is no doubt about that, but this has shown the resilience needed to give them a chance in this match. Their biggest strength is the ability to bounce back, as New England was pretty much down in the dumps when it comes to standings. The team then responded in the best possible way, including beating Cinncinati and Charlotte FC, both playoff teams in the MLS.

Their biggest reason why New England could win is their offensive firepower. Since ending the poor streak of results, they have scored at least two goals in each game and overall failed to score over one goal in just three games this season. They will be relying on Adam Buksa, the Polish striker who bagged seven goals in 10 games this year. He will be the key part of any path to victory for New England in this match.

Why Philadelphia Could Win This Game

Coming into this game, the Philadelphia Union fans must be delighted that their poor run of form was stopped by the 2-0 win over the Timbers. Still, despite five draws and a loss in the six games prior to winning over Portland, the Union still hold on to the top spot of the Eastern Conference and still just trails LAFC by two points for that coveted 1st spot in the overall MLS standings. The poor run of form aside, Philadelphia have been beyond impressive at moments this season and they should look to continue this against New England.

The biggest reason why Philadelphia could win this game is the fact that their roster is much better. It is led by their top goalscorer Daniel Gazdag, who has 13 appearances and seven goals. Even more impressively, Gazdag has done his damage from midfield, and sometimes covered for his attackers that have not always been as prolific. The Union also have guys like Julian Carranza and Kai Wagner, both players that have played great at times this season.

Another major reason could be what is at stake here for the Union. Philadelphia endured this poor run of form without losing much, due to poor results from other teams near the top of the conference, but they cannot play with that anymore. They will be facing a non-playoff team and one that has lost a ton this season. In the simplest of terms, anything other than a win for Philadelphia here is a major disappointment.

Final New England-Philadelphia Prediction & Pick

Despite the great form of New England lately and the poor form of Philadelphia, there are not many realistic ways that the Revolution could beat the Union in this match. There is too much at stake for Philadelphia and they have a roster that knows how to win, even if they have some lapses of concentration. Our final New England-Philadelphia prediction is a Philadelphia win at Gilette Stadium.

Final New England-Philadelphia Pick: New England (+105)
