Jerry West is as iconic as an individual as any in NBA history. “The Logo” is not only one of the greatest players ever, but he also one of the best executives the game has seen.

West has a brilliant track record in the front office, having drafted Kobe Bryant in 1996 while also signing Shaquille O'Neal that same summer. West provided the foundation that would lead to one of the most dominant dynasties in NBA history.

He also served as an executive board member for the Golden State Warriors from 2011-2017, reporting directly to owner Joe Lacob and proving to be instrumental in the decisions to draft Klay Thompson and Draymond Green in back-to-back years.

So it is notable when West says that he believes Ja Morant — and not Zion Williamson — is the best player in this upcoming draft class.

According to actor and comedian Jeff Garlin, Jerry West was gushing about Morant's abilities when Garlin ran into him a couple of weeks ago at a Los Angeles Clippers game. Garlin said on “The Dan Patrick Show:”

“You know what he was obsessed with? He talked about the college players coming out and he loves and thinks the best player in the draft is the no. 2 guy. He thinks Ja Morant is a miracle.”

Ja Morant's stock rose throughout the year, but he really ascended to national prominence with a triple-double for Murray State in their first-round victory over Marquette in the NCAA Tournament.

While Zion Williamson is the presumptive top overall pick, Morant's freakish athleticism and court vision at the point guard position make him a likely top prospect for a number of teams slated to pick in the top five.
