The business of sports betting has always been a lucrative cash cow. If you ask the great Charles Barkley, he is actually under the impression that sports gambling is going to completely change the NBA in the near future.
Barkley recently made the revelation that an unnamed team owner recently told him about how sports gambling is set to become the NBA's most profitable source of income within the next few years:
“I was talking to an [NBA] owner who told me in three-to-five years, we will not even need the TV money. That’s how big this thing is going to be,” Barkley told Chris Sheridan of BasketballNews.com.
One of the biggest developments in the rise of sports gambling to the mainstream has been the legalization of the same in the state of New York. While there are still a number of hurdles that need to be cleared, there's no denying that it's only going to be a matter of time before this comes to be.
It's also a poorly kept secret that the NBA's revenue streams have been diminishing over the past few years. This is the reason why they have been constantly trying to find other sources of income, which now includes their jump into the world of NFT's via their partnership with NBA Top Shot.
Sports gambling is potentially an even more lucrative avenue so it isn't surprising that both the league and NBA teams are going to welcome this rather controversial revenue stream with open arms.
