Retired Boston Celtics small forward Paul Pierce continues his verbal assault on current Los Angeles Lakers star forward LeBron James‘ ongoing career on Friday, the same week after leaving the former Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat champion of an all-time top-five NBA players list, controversially.

While speaking to Jay Williams, Jalen Rose, and others on ESPN's “Countdown,” Pierce, 42, argued James and co. during his Heat era “underachieved” (via NBA Central on Twitter).

“The Miami Heat, in my eyes, underachieved.

“That team right there — let's be honest — when we saw that LeBron was going to Miami with D-Wade and Chris Bosh, did you not think they would run the table? It's like, that team, nobody can beat them.”

James, Wade, and Bosh, of course, made four Finals appearances together under head coach Erik Spoelstra in Miami after the two forwards signed in free agency with the Heat, winning back-to-back titles in 2012-13. The second championship particularly irked Pierce, a former 10-time All-Star, due to his ex-teammate in future Hall of Fame shooting guard Ray Allen leaving the “Big 3” Celtics to help the Heat win it all.

Pierce, along with Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Rajon Rondo, helped the Celtics win their first title in 22 years by defeating Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2008 Finals. Along their tenure with Boston, James and his teams were frequent foes for Eastern Conference dominance. Miami faced Boston in the conference semifinals in 2011 and the conference finals the next year en route to the franchise's second title and first with James, Wade, and Bosh together.

Pierce, who has been maligned on social media this week for his choice to leave out James from the top-five NBA players of all time, appears to still hold a grudge against the now-Lakers star for the frequent postseason meetings between his Heat and Pierce's Celtics.
