Former NBA swingman and Racine, Wisconsin native Caron Butler received quite the honor from his hometown.

Racine Mayor Cory Mason and Second District Alderman Mollie Jones have formally announced that the town's 21st Street has officially been renamed to Caron Butler Drive.

“This is where I shot my first shot, literally,” Butler recently said, via Ricardo Torres of The Journal Times. “This is where I fell in love with the game of basketball because I couldn’t get on the courts [at the Dr. John Bryant Center] because I just wasn’t ready, and I came back here and shot my first basket right here.”d

Over the course of his lengthy NBA playing career, Butler suited up for the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings. Butler averaged 14.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists across 881 career regular season games.

“This community is everything to me,” Butler added. “I see my face on a lot of these kids’ faces and I want to let them know that they can be anything that they dream or aspire to believe.”

Now 39 years old, Butler last suited up in the NBA with the Kings back in the 2015-16 season. Staying around the game, he can often be seen on television serving as a NBA analyst.
