Why The Nets Can Cover The Spread
Kevin Durant and James Harden have been able to find a winning formula early this season despite Harden's struggles with the new foul-call rules early on. Harden has established himself as the lead ball-handler in the absence of Kyrie Irving, and he's been able to run the Nets' offense well alongside with Durant. The Nets have a solid mix of young guys and veterans around their stars, and despite the absences of Irving and Joe Harris they continue to play well. Dallas comes into this matchup a bit banged up, so the Nets should be in good position for a win and a cover on Tuesday. Durant and Harden may still be the best two players on the floor, and the Nets have clearly been the better team between these two so far this season.
Brooklyn is 8-2 on the road this season, but just 8-14-1 vs. the spread.
Why The Mavericks Can Cover The Spread
The Mavericks come into this one with a few question marks on the injury report. Kristaps Porzingis is probable, while Luka Doncic and Tim Hardaway Jr. is questionable. Doncic is obviously the big one to note here, though Hardaway is a big piece as well, especially vs. a good team like Brooklyn. The Mavericks will be looking to find some rhythm as they are seemingly mired in the middle of a a rough skid. Between injuries and just clunky play offensively, Dallas has underperformed so far this season. If Doncic is out, Dallas has basically no chance to win this game and the spread will sky-rocket. If Luka can suit up, a cover or a win becomes much more likely obviously.
Dallas is 6-5 at home and 9-13 against the spread this season. Doncic's status is the huge question mark here, so don't make any plays on Dallas until his final status is announced.
Final Nets-Mavericks Prediction & Pick
The Nets should be able to cover and win in this one regardless of who suits up for Dallas. Brooklyn is the clear better unit in this spot and based on the injury report, they are also healthier. Durant and Harden should be able to take care of business vs. a struggling Dallas group in this matchup. The Mavericks have been unremarkable offensively so far this season, so the Nets should be able to pull away with this one at some point.
