Buckle up. Huge developments could be in the offing early in this week’s NBA Draft, according to Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports.

While trade chatter this time of year isn't unusual, there is a growing sense among many team execs that there could be some significant deals early in the draft.

As noted by Mannix, it’s normal for trade talks to spike up during this time of the year, particularly during the lead up to the draft, but due to a number of factors, this edition of the draft could turn out to be one of the most dramatic in terms of trades that could happen.

For one, the draft itself is regarded as one of the deepest in recent memory. The top overall pick alone could realistically be anyone among the likes of Deandre Ayton, Luka Doncic, Marvin Bagley III, and even Mo Bamba and Jaren Jackson Jr. Then there are teams looking to trade up or down, depending on their other pressing needs besides nailing the right pick in the draft. Teams like the Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly willing to let go of their no. 4 pick provided that their trade partner is also keen on absorbing Chandler Parsons and his burdensome salary.

The situation of LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George also cast a big cloud over the draft. Take for example the Spurs, who are currently in flux about what to do with Leonard, who is demanding a trade out of San Antonio. Could he be traded on draft day? It’s possible – and it’s not the only trade scenario that could happen this coming Thursday.
