This season's trade deadline is drawing closer, and the Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns are still engaged in trade discussions revolving around third-year guard Luke Kennard.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski initially reported discussions between the two teams earlier this week. According to Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press, the Pistons have been taking calls on Kennard from teams around the NBA landscape, with the Suns being one of many interested suitors. The two sides are interested in a potential deal and are still trying to work out pieces:

Two sources with firsthand knowledge of the situation confirmed the Pistons are receiving trade calls from teams seeking to make a deal for Kennard. One source cautioned the Pistons were not close to making a deal. The information suggests the Suns aren’t the only team interested.

ESPN.com's NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported the Pistons were discussing a deal that would send Kennard to the Phoenix Suns for a first-round pick and possibly two young point guards, Elie Okobo and Jevon Carter.

A source tells the Free Press “there is interest on both sides” but the franchises are “not there yet on the pieces that will make it work.”

Luke Kennard is eligible to sign a rookie-scale contract extension this summer. The Pistons reportedly aren't concerned about the potential price tag on an extension, but that's not stopping them from taking trade calls. The guard is currently recovering from tendinitis in both of his knees. He has missed the last 22 games for Detroit, but some reports are indicating that he might be ready for action sometime around the All-Star break.

In his 28 appearances with the Pistons this season (25 starts), Kennard has racked up averages of 15.8 points on 44.2 percent shooting from the field (39.9 percent from beyond the arc), 4.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 32.9 minutes per outing.

This season's trade deadline is Thursday at 3:00 p.m. ET. Let's see if Luke Kennard is traded between now and then.
