The San Antonio Spurs view the Miami Heat as a potential trade partner if they decide to move All-Stars LaMarcus Aldridge or DeMar DeRozan before the February trade deadline, according to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald.

The Spurs, as of now, haven't decided what to do with Aldridge and DeRozan:

A source in contact with the Spurs said San Antonio hasn’t decided what to do regarding LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan but that it views the Heat as a potential trade partner if it decides to make a move with either one.

Though there’s no indication of any aggressive Heat pursuit of either at this time, one source said Heat/Spurs contact was expected, if it hasn’t happened already. Pat Riley previously pursued both players when they were free agents and both have deals with only one more full season.

The Heat told star small forward Jimmy Butler this past summer they will be aggressive in trying to land another star in the future.

DeRozan has a $27.7 million player option for next season, while Aldridge is due $24 million in 2020-21.

The Heat are trying to maintain their 2021 cap space to presumably pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo, who can become an unrestricted free agent if he declines the supermax extension from the Milwaukee Bucks.

DeRozan is averaging 22.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.1 assists this season. He's very close friends with Butler. Aldridge, meanwhile, is putting up 18.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He's been linked to the Heat in the past.

The Heat are 28-12 on the season. They have the second-best record in the Eastern Conference and look like a legitimate title contender. We'll see if president Pat Riley makes any moves to bolster the roster.
