The Brooklyn Nets are set to take on fellow Eastern Conference contenders, the Philadelphia 76ers, on Monday as part of the NBA's Martin Luther King Jr. Day slate of games.

Nets superstar point guard Kyrie Irving recently opened up about what it means for him to play during this nationwide holiday:

Irving dropped a bit of poetry in his statement here, and he clearly has so much respect for the iconic Martin Luther King Jr. In so many words, what the 27-year-old is saying here is that he recognizes everything MLK did for the African American community and knows just how widespread his legacy is.

For his part, this will be Irving's fifth game back with the Nets following a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a lingering shoulder issue. On Saturday, the six-time All-Star struggled against the league-best Milwaukee Bucks, notching 17 points on 6-of-15 shooting, along with two triples, six rebounds, six assists, and four steals in 31 minutes of play.

The Nets proved no match for Giannis Antetokunmpo and company, with the Bucks coming away with an easy 117-97 victory in the Barclays Center. Brooklyn has now lost three out of the four games since Kyrie's return, but they will be hoping to turn things around on Monday against a formidable Sixers side.

The Nets are currently 18-23 and are clinging to the eighth and final spot in the Eastern Conference. There has already been some Kyrie Irving drama as well, so Brooklyn really could use a win to change its fortunes.
