Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield may potentially enter the 2018 NFL Draft as a prime darkhorse candidate to be the first quarterback taken off the board. Unfortunately, he has had a difficult time shaking the comparisons to former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Both Mayfield and Manziel have acknowledged that despite their similarities, they have completely different approaches when it comes to football. However, NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock told 92.3 The Fan's Bull and Fox that it is fair to compare their likeness for the time being:

“The world of 6-1 and under quarterbacks is a small world, so just by virtue of that they’re kind of thrown in together,” Mayock said. “You can certainly look at Baker Mayfield and say he’s an athletic kid; he’s got a really good arm. I think he probably has a little bit stronger arm than Johnny Manziel did, but I think the comparison at least on the surface is valid.”

Mayfield's inability to shoot down comparisons to Manziel should come as no surprise. Both were overlooked, undersized high school prospects coming out of Texas that would later go on to win the Heisman Trophy. Furthermore, Mayfield's boisterous personality on and off the field only raise further speculation about his similarities to Manziel.

Needless to say, Mayfield's height has been an area of concern ever since he announced his decision to enter the draft. Fortunately, teams like the Cleveland Browns have reportedly been more fixated on the type of intangibles a player can bring under center. For now, Mayfield is just going to have to wait and prove the critics wrong
