Tom Brady games exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, anyone? The business relationship between Amazon and the NFL might just reach unparalleled levels pretty soon, as Amazon and the NFL are reportedly in talks regarding the purchase of a minority stake in the league's media properties. This may reach up to a 49% stake in the NFL's media properties and assets. As Michael McCarthy and AJ Perez of Front Office Sports report:

“The tech giant is in talks with the country’s richest sports league about acquiring up to a 49% stake in NFL Network, RedZone and NFL.com, said sources. The $10 billion league hired Goldman Sachs Group in June to negotiate a deal to sell a chunk of NFL Media.”

Any potential deal between the league and Amazon could result in tremendous changes to the league's media environment, where a NFL package or bundle of games is made exclusively available to Amazon, which may reach up to $1 billion annually for exclusive rights to Thursday Night Football. This is a stark change from the norm since 2017, wherein Amazon, Fox, and the NFL Network all shared broadcast rights to Thursday Night Football.

As Amazon and the league continue to negotiate, one can only imagine the extents to which Amazon—which earns about $390 billion annually—is willing to partner with the United States' most successful sports league in history.

For now, it's safe to assume that Amazon has its eyes set on the possibility of some manner of exclusive media rights to air the the league's biggest, brightest, and most exciting stars, plays, and teams.
