After getting released by the Carolina Panthers in late March, Cam Newton has struggled to gain interest from an NFL team in free agency.

Several NFL analysts have suggested that he may have to work himself up to become a starter. However, those who have played with him have had different suggestions.

In a recent interview on Ian Rapoport’s podcast, Los Angeles Chargers guard and Newton's former Carolina teammate Trai Turner said that he believes Cam is still a starter.

“I think right now his biggest thing is to be 100% healthy, which I think he is. Not just physically, but mentally also. To see what his next phase would be in his career,” Turner shared.

“I do believe that he’s a starter in the NFL. I don’t know where that’ll be. It may or may not be with the Chargers. If he is, that’ll be awesome. And if it’s Tyrod [Taylor], that’s still great. I like whoever’s back there. So, I’m excited about that.”

The most likely reason why Cam Newton hasn't been signed yet is probably because of the coronavirus pandemic. The NFL has enforced a restriction to close down all team facilities in order to try to curb the outbreak of the virus.

Considering Newton's past injury history, teams may want him to take a physical first before signing him. Until that happens, Newton may not be signed.

This past season, Newton played in only two games and recorded 572 passing yards and one interception. Despite his terrible season due to injuries, he still has the potential to reach the same heights as he was before.
