The ever-evolving saga of star wide receiver Josh Gordon's NFL career grew longer as the 29-year-old veteran applied for reinstatement on Wednesday, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Gordon, a one-time Pro Bowl receiver and First Team All-Pro selection in 2013, has been banned by the NFL several times now, including various suspensions for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Gordon was first slapped with a two-game suspension during his All-Pro 2013 season, and in 2014, a mixture of substance abuse violations and violating team rules cost him all but five games of his blossoming professional career.

Then, Gordon missed two consecutive seasons in 2014 and 2015 — what could have been the emerging receiver's athletic peak — after an incident saw the former second-round selection of the 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft charged with a DUI in North Carolina.

Gordon played another five games with the Cleveland Browns in 2017 and one the next year before finding himself traded to disciplinarian Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots, winning Super Bowl LIII (he didn't play in the game).

Gordon was claimed off waivers by the Seattle Seahawks last season, playing five games with quarterback Russell Wilson before the receiver was slapped with another late-season suspension by the NFL for violating the performance-enhancing drugs policy.

Last month, Gordon said he would apply for reinstatement. According to Pelissero, the former Baylor wideout has been holed up in the Pacific northwest, working out in Seattle.

Gordon was one of the most elite receivers in the game in his early days. Still not even 30 years old, if he does get reinstated by the league, it will remain to be seen how many teams are biting on a player with so many issues in spite of his undeniable talent.
