The NFL has experienced some huge turnover in the head coach position. Among the biggest potential names on the market was Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding Riley's future in the NFL. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, he has dispelled any notion of leaving Oklahoma:

Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley, who made it clear this year that he wanted to stay in college rather than the NFL, has agreed to a contract extension with the school.

The update should come as no surprise. Riley has been adamant about wanting to remain in Oklahoma as opposed to making the jump to the NFL. It appears he has finally solidified that notion.

It is easy to see why there was such tremendous interest in Riley. The NFL has transitioned into an offensive-friendly league. As a result, young, innovative coaches have become highly sought-after. Riley certainly fits the billing after what he has accomplished with the Sooners over the last two years. He has accumulated a 24-2 record and two Big 12 titles in his first two seasons in charge. That's not to mention that he has helped produce two Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks in Baker Mayfield.

Although Riley is committed to Oklahoma for the near future, he has not ruled out the possibility of ever transitioning to the NFL. However, it is clear that he is intent on building another powerhouse to compete with the likes of Alabama and Clemson for years to come. This should not be too difficult considering all the momentum he has built after this season.
