Kaepernick, 32, has not played in the NFL since 2016. Formerly with the San Francisco 49ers, the quarterback caused a national uproar for his kneeling during the playing of the “Star-Spangled Banner” in protest of police brutality and racial oppression. After he went unsigned in the following offseason, he filled a lawsuit with the NFL for allegedly blackballing him because of his on-field political statements.

On Feb. 15, Kaepernick's lawsuit with the NFL reached a settlement. Since then, he has been public about his want to play, stating that he is in shape to do so and has been since he played his last NFL snap. Saturday's workout is an opportunity to show if he can continue to play.
