Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback and social justice activist Colin Kaepernick will be getting his own Netflix documentary.

According to Lesley Goldberg of The Hollywood Reporter, Kaepernick will be teaming up with Ava DuVernay for Colin in Black & White, a six-part limited series that will focus on his high school years.

Kaepernick is going to narrate the show, but there will be someone else cast to play the younger Kaepernick. DuVernay said that she couldn't be happier that Kaepernick is finally getting his own show that will air on a platform like Netflix:

“With his act of protest, Colin Kaepernick ignited a national conversation about race and justice with far-reaching consequences for football, culture and for him, personally … Colin’s story has much to say about identity, sports and the enduring spirit of protest and resilience. I couldn’t be happier than to tell this story with the team at Netflix.”

Kaepernick said he is also excited to be able to tell the story through his eyes. Too often Kaepernick believes a black story is told through a white lens:

“Too often we see race and Black stories portrayed through a white lens … We seek to give new perspective to the differing realities that Black people face. We explore the racial conflicts I faced as an adopted Black man in a white community, during my high school years. It’s an honor to bring these stories to life in collaboration with Ava for the world to see.”

It's unclear when this show is going to be released on Netflix, but when it does, it should give insight on a player who has been talked about so much, and who some believe has been misunderstood.
