The New Orleans Saints are already gearing up for the second half of the season with the acquisition of linebacker Kwon Alexander from the San Francisco 49ers, as per ESPN‘s Adam Schefter.

Schefter added more details regarding the deal but is still awaiting final word on the player to be potentially included in the trade, via Twitter:

Kwon Alexander was a mainstay for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for four seasons where he earned a spot on the 2015 PFWA All-Rookie Team and a Pro Bowl appearance in 2017.

As a new acquisition for the Niners in March of 2019, the former LSU Tiger earned himself a four-year, $54 million contract with the 49ers during the offseason. He went on to have eight appearances in the 2019 NFL season capped off with a trip to the Super Bowl LIV.

Alexander recently underwent an offseason biceps surgery prior to the start of the 2020 NFL season with the 49ers' renewed hopes of making it back to the championship stage. However, their campaign didn't turn out the way they hoped it to be with a flurry of injuries to their key players in the early stages of the season.

He continued his production for the 49ers defense as he generated a total of 30 tackles and a sack through five games played this season. His arrival will be a welcome boost for the Saints defense where he will be playing alongside tenured journeyman Demario Davis, veteran Alex Anzalone, and rookie Zack Baun in the linebacker position.

The sixth-year veteran will hope to help the Saints defend their NFC South divisional title and contribute to the Saints' playoff aspirations this season.
