The Denver Nuggets started off the 2018-19 regular season as one of the top teams in the NBA and have managed to sustain that success into February. However, the upstart Western Conference franchise has yet to inherit the services of veteran point guard Isaiah Thomas, who has remained sidelined for the entirety of the 2018-19 campaign due to a lingering injury.

Nonetheless, the surging Nuggets could be on the verge of adding Thomas sooner rather than later as Denver head coach Mike Malone recently revealed that the former Washington Huskies standout has participated in “some portions” of 5-on-5 drills at practice.

The 30-year-old signal caller has been hampered by a nagging hip injury, that has caused him to miss time more than once over the course of the last several seasons. Prior to arriving in Denver ahead of the 2018-19 regular season, Thomas notably spent time with both the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers in addition to suiting up for the Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers along the way. He was originally selected by the Kings with the last pick of the 2011 NBA Draft.

His best single-season effort came as a member of the aforementioned Celtics back in 2016-17, with Thomas appearing in 76 regular season games, all of which were starts. Over the course of 33.8 minutes per game, he infamously averaged 28.9 points, 5.9 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 0.9 steals per outing.

For his NBA career as a whole, Thomas is averaging 18.9 points, 5.1 assists, 2.6 rebounds, 0.9 steals and 29.8 minutes per outing across a total of 473 regular season appearances and 324 starts atop the highest level.
