The Denver Nuggets have decided to commit long-term to one of their best players, as they have reached an agreement to sign rising star Jamal Murray to a five-year, $170 million max extension.

Murray has been a vital piece of the Nuggets' rebuild over the past couple of years. He just had the best season of his three-year NBA career this 2018-19 campaign, averaging 18.2 points, 4.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game. He's one of the main reasons why Denver turned into a team that barely made the playoffs two years ago, to a championship-contending team last season.

The Nuggets earned the second-best record in the Western Conference last season but lost to the Portland Trail Blazers in the second round of the playoffs.

Denver knows that Murray is something special, so securing him long-term had been a priority for them. They had to make sure that they keep him alongside All-Star center Nikola Jokic because they hold the key to the team's success in the future.

The Nuggets have made it clear that they are pretty confident with what they have at the moment, which is probably the reason why they didn't make any moves during the first day of free agency. Of course, expect them to still explore the market as they search for players that will play a key role in their goal next season, but if they don't find any, they will just ride with the same group that elevated them in the West.
