Third-party organizers continue to support the grassroots Dota 2 communities around the world. The Oceanic Esports League does its part by organizing a high-level competition like the OEDL Fall Invitational.

OCEANIC ESPORTS LEAGUE ANNOUNCES OEDL FALL INVITATIONAL

The Oceanic Esports League aims to bridge the Oceania and Southeast Asia (SEA) regions. Hence, they announced the Oceanic Esports Dota League (OEDL) Fall Invitational, a new inter-region competition for Dota 2.

“We are looking forward to breaking a new ground with the OEDL Fall Invitational,” says CEO Justin “xMusiCa” Yuen. “The success of the Oceanic Esports Dota League is a testament to the region's talent. With the upcoming inter-regional tournament, we seek to further fulfill our mission of giving Oceania’s finest a battleground to continue honing their skills.”

Inter-region tournaments are rare in SEA and Oceania, which is much more common between the Americas and in Europe with the CIS region. Hence, the OEDL Fall Invitational aims to fulfill this gap in the two regions. The OEDL will raise the skill ceiling of teams in both regions by exposing teams to metas and playstyles different from their own region.

Four teams from OEDL – Season 3 will gain direct invites to the OEDL Fall Invitational. Meanwhile, the remaining eight teams will go through the OEDL Fall Invitationals qualifiers.

OEDL FALL INVITATIONAL SEA QUALIFIERS REGISTRATION OPEN

Two teams the SEA Open Qualifiers will move on to the closed qualifiers. The first set of qualifiers, which will run on April 17, will determine one team moving forward to the closed qualifiers. The second set of qualifiers, which will run on April 18, will determine one more. They will play in best-of-one single-elimination brackets, requiring all teams to bring their A-game in each and every match they play.

To preserve the integrity of the tournament, the team pool for the tournament will be restricted. Only teams from the Dota Pro Circuit 2021: Season 1 – SEA Lower Division and below will be allowed to register. That means no tier-1, professional teams. Save those for the Singapore Major. However, this doesn't mean that this tournament will be a snooze fest. While the names involved aren't as famous as the ones playing in the Major, still expect high-level competition in all of OEDL Fall Invitational's matches.

The closed qualifiers teams will play in a single round-robin, best-of-two series format. The two teams from the open qualifiers plus six more teams directly invited from the Dota Pro Circuit 2021 SEA Lower Division will play in the closed qualifiers. They will play in a single round-robin, best-of-two series format. The top four teams from the closed qualifiers will move on to the group stage. The closed qualifiers will commence on April 19.

FOUR SEA AND FOUR OCEANIA TEAMS WILL BATTLE IT OUT IN THE GROUP STAGE

When the dust settles in the OEDL – Season 3, the four Oceania representatives will emerge. Then, at the conclusion of the closed qualifiers, the four SEA representatives will emerge. These eight teams will play in a single round-robin, best-of-two series format. The emerging six teams will move on to the May 12 playoffs, where a double-elimination playoff bracket awaits them. The winning team will then get the first-ever crown of the first-ever OEDL Invitational.

While the organizers haven't announced the prize distribution scheme yet, the tournament will have a total of AUD $17,500 in prizes (~USD $13,555). For more information about the tournament, visit the Oceanic Esports official website.
