OG Anunoby is poised for a breakout year for the Toronto Raptors and his numbers so far are proving that he's indeed the next man up. The 24-year old has been massively underrated over the course of his career. Anunoby has been under the radar for most casual NBA fans but the entire city of Toronto has been quite high on their young swingman as they hope to bounce back after a tough '20-21 campaign.

Obviously, Anunoby is no Kawhi Leonard. The Los Angeles Clippers star is a much more proven talent compared to the Raptors forward. Leonard is a two-time NBA champ, a two-time NBA Finals MVP, and a five-time All-Star while Anunoby is still finding his identity as the Raptors' main focal point. After spending time together on the floor for the 2019 championship squad for the Raps, Anunoby knows that if there's anyone he should look up to, it's definitely Kawhi Leonard.

With 2019 MIP Pascal Siakam still out recovering from an offseason shoulder surgery, all eyes have been on OG Anunoby early this season. With the Raptors moving on from key players like Kyle Lowry and Normal Powell, Anunoby has stepped up and has kept the franchise afloat early this season.

Clearly, it's way too early to predict how the Raptors' season will go. It's been an unpredictable past few months for the franchise but Anunoby's not-so-surprising form early in the season has been such a refreshing sight for the team. It's been great to see court general Fred VanVleet grow into the team's main playmaker with Lowry now with the Miami Heat. New guys like Precious Achiuwa, Gary Trent Jr., and even rookie Scottie Barnes have all contributed so much as well. But, it seems as though everything so far revolves around OG Anunoby.

Looking at the numbers, Anunoby's stat line this season isn't really overwhelming. He's only been averaging 18 points per game so far with a string of impressive 20-point games in the month of October. But, on Monday night, under the bright lights of a packed Madison Square Garden in New York, Anunoby put out a statement game in a huge road win against the surging New York Knicks.

OG exploded for a career-high night, grabbing 36 points while knocking down four triples and six boards on a historic night where the NBA celebrated the 75th anniversary of its first-ever game (via StatMuse).

Numbers-wise, everything is up for Anunoby this season. From his usage rate to his points total and even field goal attempts – it's been a career year so far for the London native as he tries to fill in a huge gap in the Raptors' roster.

Just like Kawhi Leonard, the Raptors won't only rely on Anunoby's offense but also his defense. Learning from the Clippers star from the time they spent together back in 2018-2019, Anunoby is growing to become one of the better two-way players in the league and is looking like a reliable option for head coach Nick Nurse down the stretch on both ends of the floor.

Though things are bound to change when Siakam returns and the Raptors are fully healthy, signs are pointing towards a breakout season for Anunoby no matter what. And, if the Raptors do end up making the playoffs this year, expect for OG Anunoby to take a massive leap into superstardom.

Don't sleep on OG.
