The Battle for Alberta is over. The Edmonton Oilers upset the favored Calgary Flames in five games in their Western Conference Semifinals series, four games to one. In Game 5, Oilers superstar Connor McDavid netted the game-winning goal in overtime, sending Calgary's season.

After the game, he talked about his play Thursday night, noted by ESPN writer Kristen Shilton.

“I just tried to get my leg going,” McDavid said of scoring the series clincher. “I hadn't been doing that well all night, so just focused on skating, got on the forecheck and got the puck to Leo. Know if I get the puck to [him], something good is going to happen. Tried to get open, and he made a great play as always, and I tried to shoot it on net and find a way.”

This is the first time since 2006 that the Oilers have reached the Western Conference Finals. That season, they reached the Stanley Cup Finals, losing to the Carolina Hurricanes in seven games.

The Oilers will now await the winner of the Colorado Avalanche vs. St. Louis Blues series. The Blues staved off elimination Wednesday night, with a huge comeback victory. Colorado leads that series 3-2 as it shifts back to St. Louis Friday night.

Regardless of who Edmonton plays, they will begin the conference finals on the road. But that has not bothered them in these playoffs. The Oilers have already won four games on the road in these playoffs. They feature one of the best duos in recent hockey memory in Leon Draisaitl and McDavid.

After dispatching their arch nemesis, the Calgary Flames, the Oilers will be a tough out the rest of the way. They also remain as Canada's last hope to end the 29-year Stanley Cup drought.
