Indiana Pacers big man Domantas Sabonis recorded his sixth triple-double of the season on Wednesday against the Brooklyn Nets. He finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists in the losing effort.

Despite the loss, Sabonis got a consolation prize of sorts as he set the Pacers record for most triple-doubles in a season, breaking a tie with Lance Stephenson (via ESPN Statistics and Information).

Sabonis also holds the top spot for most triple-doubles in Pacers history with 10, four more than the guy next to him in former three-time All-Star Detlef Schrempf.

The 24-year-old son of the legendary Arvydas Sabonis earned his second NBA All-Star nod this season and took home the Skills Challenge trophy, showing off his wide range of skills that include passing and ball handling.

Post players require a much more diverse skill set as teams try to spread the floor and create open shots. Nuggets center Nikola Jokic is one of the best passers in the NBA and has started a trend for more big men to follow. Sabonis has definitely followed suit, developing into a very reliable playmaker. His 6.4 assists per game this season is a career-best and trails only Jokic in the category for centers.

Sabonis' passing ability is what differentiates him as one of the most effective centers in the NBA, which also allows him to reach the triple-double mark quite often.

The Pacers hold the 10th spot in the Eastern Conference, two games out of the postseason picture. They will be relying on Domantas Sabonis' versatility to lead them back up the ladder in their upcoming assignments.
