Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers recently received a wave of criticism due to his COVID-19 vaccine stance. Despite the backlash, though, he also got some strong support from his family and friends, including his estranged dad Edward Wesley Rodgers.

Days before Aaron took the field on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, his father spoke to USA Today to weigh in on the issue. While the Rodgers patriarch hasn't talked to his son for some time now, he expressed how “proud” he is of Aaron's decision to not get the vaccine and seek other treatments instead.

“I think he tried to probably treat himself naturally, like a lot of folks do. And there's a lot of great natural things out there, which help mitigate the virus. So I'm proud of him. I'm proud that he went that route,” Ed said, per People.

To recall, Aaron Rodgers tested positive for COVID-19, causing him to miss the Packers' Week 9 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. While his positive test wouldn't have been an issue normally, it was later revealed that he's not vaccinated after saying last August that he was “immunized”–basically misleading people to believe he's vaccinated.

Of course it didn't sit well to fans and experts alike, who bombarded the Packers star with criticisms calling him a liar. The veteran signal-caller eventually apologized and acknowledged that he might have misled people with his comments.

“I do realize that I am a role model to a lot of people and so I just want to start off the show by acknowledging that I made some comments that people might have felt were misleading. To anybody who felt misled by those comments, I take full responsibility for those comments,” Rodgers said in his recent appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.

Rodgers has since been fined for his violations of the league's COVID-19 protocols. Now, it seems he's ready to move past the issue and get the Packers winning again.
