The Green Bay Packers have activated rookie safety Darnell Savage from the non-football illness list, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

Savage has been sidelined since having his wisdom teeth pulled just before the start of training camp.

The 22-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Maryland, was selected by the Packers in the first round (21st pick overall) of the NFL Draft back in April.

Green Bay was so smitten with Savage, as a matter of fact, that it actually traded up to take him. Savage marked the second defensive player the Packers took in the first round, as they also chose Michigan defensive lineman Rashan Gary with the 12th overall pick.

Savage is coming off of a senior campaign in which he registered 52 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions and a defensive touchdown.

He arrived at Maryland back in 2015 but played in just five games during his freshman season. Then, the following year, Savage became a full-time starter for the Terrapins, posting 59 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a pick.

Savage then proceeded to put up similar numbers during his junior campaign, tallying 59 tackles, three interceptions, a fumble recovery, eight passes defended and a defensive touchdown.

The Seaford, DE native is expected to start alongside free-agent addition Adrian Amos in Green Bay's secondary.

Meanwhile, the Packers went a disappointing 6-9-1 this past season, missing the playoffs. It marked the first time that Green Bay had failed to qualify for the postseason in back-to-back years since 2006.
