Mike Pettine knows the last time the Green Bay Packers faced the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara, they were throttled. On prime time, the Niners outclassed the Pack in every way, winning 37-8. That was in Week 12. They will meet again on Sunday in the NFC Championship.

The Packers insist that this time will be different. Green Bay's defensive coordinator Mike Pettine — who employed 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan as an offensive coordinator in Cleveland — has supreme confidence in his squad to give a far better fight on Sunday.

Every game is different,” Pettine said on Thursday, via the team's official website. “We're not behind on the scoreboard going in. If you go in with that mentality, you're in trouble. We're going to go in confident, and we'll take that game and use it to our benefit. It certainly showed us we have to play at a very high level to beat that team. They showed why they're the No. 1 seed. There's not much margin for error, but it can be done.”

Both the Packers and 49ers are coming off wins in the divisional round, beating the Seattle Seahawks and the Minnesota Vikings, respectively. Both did not play in the wild card round, as they enjoyed first-round byes. San Francisco, as the No. 1 seed, will host the game in the Bay Area.

“We know we have to play better,” Pettine concluded. “We know it's a tough environment. We're not going to be surprised by the environment. We've played there. We know we have to play our best game.”
