Most teams do not have much riding on the NFL preseason finale this week. However, that does not seem to be the case for Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst when it comes to quarterbacks DeShone Kizer and Tim Boyle.

The Packers have made some pretty notable moves under center as of late. According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Gutekunst feels their performance against the Kansas City Chiefs will have an impact on their status going into the 2018 NFL season.

“I think we’re still working toward that,” Gutekunst said. “I have a lot of confidence in both those young guys. Tonight is going to be another critical step for those guys to continue to progress and earn that confidence. They both have shown the physical abilities to play in this league and are working toward the other part of it.”

Although Gutekunst was referring to both players in his comments, it is safe to assume he will be paying close attention to Kizer. Green Bay learned firsthand the importance of having a quality backup last year.

The 2017 campaign went down the drain as soon as Rodgers suffered the shoulder injury. This could be why the Packers ultimately decided to part ways with quarterback Brett Hundley after trading him to the Seattle Seahawks.

Hundley's trade could be an indication of how Kizer has progressed after arriving in Green Bay this offseason via trade. The Packers made the trade for the former second-rounder in hopes that he could serve as a viable option in case Rodgers gets hurt. He has enjoyed a solid preseason thus far, and Gutekunst is hoping he can end it on a high note versus the Chiefs.
