Muhammad Wilkerson was one of the key offseason acquisitions for the Green Bay Packers and was expected to help bolster a needy defensive line. New general manager Brian Gutekunst felt that Wilkerson would be a difference maker and the fans in Green Bay could not have been more excited to have the former New York Jets' star join the team.

Unfortunately, last week against the Washington Redskins, Wilkerson went down with an ankle injury. According to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Wilkerson has been placed on injured reserve and will miss the remainder of the 2018 NFL season.

In the two and a half games that Wilkerson was able to play for the Packers, Wilkerson only recorded five tackles. His loss will be felt on the defensive line, but the Packers still feel confident that they will be just fine.

Mike Daniels, Kenny Clark, and Dean Lowry are still left on the line for the Packers. All three players are more than capable of stepping up. Wilkerson was a talent that Mike Pettine loved having as a part of his defense, but he is not irreplaceable for this team.

Green Bay's defense has struggled a bit throughout the first three weeks of the season. The line hasn't been awful, but Pettine's group needs to step up moving forward if the Packers want to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

Wilkerson will hit the open free agency market once again following the 2018 season. He was hoping to reset his market with a big year, but may have a rough time finding a friendly contract following this injury.
