The Green Bay Packers capped their eventful offseason with the signing of former Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis. It was a move that not even Lewis thought was going to happen.

Prior to his signing, the veteran had not really planned on signing with Green Bay. However, according to the Packer Report, that all changed when he met quarterback Aaron Rodgers and tight end Jimmy Graham.

It is intriguing to learn that Lewis was initially non-committal about joining the Packers. Then again, spending some time with star players like Rodgers and Graham can have that effect.

He had spent his entire 12-year career in Jacksonville before being released by the team this offseason. There were not very many reports about his potential landing spots before the Packers expressed interest. Perhaps the signing of Graham gave Lewis reason to believe that they did not want another big-bodied pass-catcher. However, it appears that is just what they were looking for.

His addition will Rodgers another big target to throw to in red zone situations. Despite his modest production over the years, Lewis has established himself as one of the more prominent pass-catching tight ends over the last decade. He enjoyed a bit of a resurgence in the red zone last year after hauling in 24 catches for 318 yards and five touchdowns in the 2017 campaign.

Although it is a far cry from his production several years ago, he has still shown flashes of potential. Perhaps a fresh start in Green Bay could be just what Lewis needs to finish out his career on a high note.
