The Green Bay Packers won Matt LaFleur's first official game as an NFL head coach. But after so much talk of how the rookie coach's innovative offensive scheme would juice an attack that faltered in the final years under Mike McCarthy, the Packers' play on that side of the ball in in their 10-3 victory over the Chicago Bears left much to be desired. In Week 2, though, Green Bay fared far better against another defense that's considered among the league's best – and LaFleur was very, very excited about it, especially in conjunction with its play on defense.

After a 21-16 victory over the division-rival Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, the Packers first-year coach lauded his team's well-balanced effort on both sides of the ball, telling a fired-up locker room that it was a “great team win.”

Green Bay started fast against Minnesota, jumping out to a 14-0 lead on a pair of touchdown passes from Aaron Rodgers. The offense bogged down from there, though, setting the stage for the Packers' rebuilt defense to hold off a comeback bid by the Vikings. Mike Pettine's unit forced a whopping five fumbles, recovering two, and picked off Kirk Cousins twice.

Green Bay was a popular Super Bowl pick before the season among those looking for potential NFC champions other than the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints. While the presence of Rodgers in a modern-day system like the one implemented by LaFleur was the driving force behind that optimism, it's defense that's loomed largest to the Packers' success over the first two weeks of the regular season.
