Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy shed some light on the fiasco involving Packers cornerback Damarious Randall during last Thursday’s 35-14 win over the Chicago Bears.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network first reported that Randall was benched in the second half after getting into an argument with one of the Packers’ coaches. It was also reported that Randall left Lambeau Field while the game was still ongoing.

However, Rapoport’s sources had conflicting stories, with others saying that Randall stayed in the locker room and waited for the game to end before leaving.

McCarthy was asked about it on Friday by reporters, eager to know more details about what exactly transpired the night before.

Per Kevin Patra of NFL.com:

“Damarious Randall last night was a coach's decision, my decision to send him to the locker room,” McCarthy said Friday afternoon when asked by reporters about the incident, “It's an internal matter as I stated last night. Anytime things happen throughout the course of our operation, whether it's on the game, practice, so forth I can promise you there's dialogue and it's an internal matter that's being handled internally. I will make it clear as it was on the field. It was a coach's decision, my decision, for Damarious to go into the locker room.

McCarthy didn't detail what sparked the drama, as he merely wants to move on from the issue and just prepare for a high-profile showdown in Arlington against the Dallas Cowboys. However, Randall’s meltdown might have something to do with the touchdown he gave up to Kendall Wright near the end of the first half against Chicago.

It’s not certain yet as of this writing whether the Packers will let Randall see action against the Cowboys, or if his snaps will be limited. Randall started in Week 4 in lieu of the injured Davon House.
